A Brief History

After over 135 years right in the heart of the City Centre, Sheffield’s most famous family owned department store has been through arguably the biggest changes in its history. A major one million pound extension was completed in 2000 which has increased the size of the store by almost 50%. In 2007 a major face lift was completed to the outside of the building and to increase the capacity of the car park.

The larger store continues to offer its current ranges as well as hundreds of new products across household linens, kitchenware, crystal and giftware to toys, luggage, perfume, clothes for all the family, electrical equipment and furniture.Atkinsons department store is already the perfect place to find unusual gifts, such as candles, ceramics and speciality foods including dried fruits and exotic nuts.

The store now occupies a large two floor site which offers easy access from any direction plus a large seven floor car park directly above the store. Thanks to the three separate eating areas, Atkinsons is the perfect destination for friends and family to meet before getting down to the serious business of shopping.

As a family run department store Atkinsons have been a key shopping destination within Sheffield City for over 135 years and they plan to be around for many, many more years to come.The expansion and face lifts are only the beginning of Atkinsons continual commitment to the people of Sheffield and the surrounding districts.
