Our store is one of 12 sites around the city which are having their World War II Blitz story commemorated by the Sheffield Blitz Trail app. Atkinsons was flattened on the evening of 12th December 1940, after which time we opened a series of smaller outlets throughout the city, before finally reestablishing in our home on The Moor in the 1960s.

We were fortunate to be chosen by Neil Anderson (local author) and the Blitz group to be the official launch for the new trail, which includes a Sheffield Blitz Trail mobile app for iPhones and Android phones. On the day we were joined by Brenda Spencer's 80 year old bear, the last item to be purchased from the store before it closed on that fateful night, and The D-Day Darlings of Britain's Got Talent fame who sang a collection of numbers from wartime, as well as Christmas songs.

The number of you that came to store to see the commemorations and watch the Darlings perform was unprecedented, and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued support over the years. Sheffield is the fabric of Atkinsons, and Atkinsons is the fabric of Sheffield. We're honoured to continue to serve you across our many departments.
